  "Jutomue Doetein: Championing Youth Advocacy and Empowerment" Jutomue Doetein grew up in Gbarnga, a community marked by high rates of children’s rights violations. Young girls were frequently subjected to sexual violence, and many children were forced into street vending during school hours, robbing them of education and opportunities. Witnessing these injustices fired Jutomue’s passion to protect the rights of children and empower young people to thrive. In 2014, he joined the Liberian Children’s Parliament in Bong County, supported by the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection, as well as UNICEF. He led advocacy campaigns using Liberia's 2011 Children’s Law and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child to educate communities, schools, and churches about children’s rights.   In 2024, Jutomue participated in several professional development programs and led several impact-driven initiatives, some of which are not mentioned here. Consider the below as a highlight: 1. January 14, 2024 – Completed the Mandela Washington Fellowship Interview at the American Corner in Zorzor, Lofa County. 2. January 16, 2024 – Inspired and empowered 50 children at Voinjama SDA School with relevant information on growth and development. 3. January 22, 2024 – Published a call for expression of interest, leading to the establishment of Liberian Youth Voices for the Acceleration of the ICPD, now with over 40 youth-led organizations supporting the UN's ICPD program of action. 4. March 25, 2024 – Selected as one of the 15 UN Youth Champions for Disarmament. 5. April 17, 2024 – Represented Liberian youth at the United Nations Retreat in Margibi County, promoting meaningful youth participation in the UN System. 6. Jutomue Doetein, an AYSRH,   Child   and Youth Rights Advocate. He is a motivational speaker, served as a Former Speaker of the Liberian   Children 's Parliament, and currently serves as Liberia's Adolescents and Youth Representative, Family Planning 2030. Youth Ambassador @YouthLead 2020. He is one of the Youngest Adolescents and Youth Representatives in Africa on the Global Family Planning Country Team. As an Advocate, realizing the huge teenage pregnancy rate in Liberia, Jutomue works in Liberia aim at ensuring that girls make use of modern Contraceptives to protect themselves, thereby having babies by choice and not chance as well as having access to information about their Sexual and Reproductive Health to make informed choices.  In 2021 with support from the FP2020 Secretariat, he collaborated with youths in Liberia and raised awareness to improve the Sexual and Reproductive Health of Adolescents and Youth thus buttressing the Government of Liberia's effor...

USAID Launches to Empower 21,000 Youth in Liberia  One third of the population of Liberia is between the ages of 15 to 35. Sadly, youth make up the majority of the unemployed, and therefore building their employability skills should be a focus for everyone. Notwithstanding, Liberia’s unemployment rate is said to be high between 75-85 percent. The question we ask ourselves is what will happen if we do not continue initiating such program. Well, we will have many drug addicts and the crime rate will increase. George Carlin said, “Never let the brain idle. ‘An idle mind is the devil’s workshop.’ And the devil’s name is Alzheimer’s. ” That is why, serious attention needs to be paid to the critical importance of vocational preparedness and the development of key employability skills particularly for youths who have not been formally educated. The name Jutomue comes from the kpelleh  vernacular  which means the Answer. His last name Doetein also comes from the kpelleh vernacular which means the sound of something when it falls. However, Doetein truly means the presence of something, when it appears, you feel it.  Now, it's get to know more about this astute young Leader. Jutomue Doetein is one of the youngest family planning youth Leaders and Influencers in Liberia, a professional Child Rights Advocate with about 9 years of experience working and advocating for vulnerable Adolescents and Youth in Liberia. He’s currently the Advocacy Officer of a non-governmental women and children protection organization SHALOM-Liberia. While serving as Speaker of the Liberian Children’s Representative Forum in 2019, he and his team were strong advocate along with the Ministry of Gender and partners for the passage of the current Domestic violence Act.
